Mr. Mehmet Akcay was born and raised in Turkey. He completed his B.Sc. from the Department of Operational Research and Statistics, Middle East Technical University followed by Master of Science in Applied Statistics from Gazi University.  He has 26 years of experience in banking, monetary policy, and other financial projects. He had served as an Executive in the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Head Office (CBRT) and retired from CBRT in 2007. He served as the Bank’s representative in London, UK. He holds a certificate from City University in London, UK on international banking and financial management. His research focuses on External Debt Management and Applied Statistics.

For the last 17 years he worked for Bilkent University, Florida International University and Florida Atlantic University as coordinator and instructor teaching in the fields of Mathematics and Statistics departments. He is currently the Adjunct Professor of College of Business in the Department of Business Analytics and Information Systems at Florida International University (FIU). In addition to teaching, Mr. Akcay is actively involved in the commercial sector and is a Consultant and Council Member of the Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) in Washington DC.

Mr. Akcay has actively been involved with Turkish American Organizations. He served as President of the Florida Turkish American Association (FTAA) for 3 years between 2019 and 2022.  Currently, he has been serving as a Director of FTAA and Florida Turkish Center Foundation (FTCF). Mr. Akcay is married with two sons. In his free time, he enjoys playing bridge and watching movies and documentaries.
