Subject: Appreciation message to Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson
Honorable Eddie Bernice Johnson,
As Turkish Americans we appreciate your letter of 2/25/2009 to your colleagues regarding proposal of Armenian genocide resolution which you also find one sided and interfering with the ongoing constructive initiatives between Turkey and Armenia.
In order to carry any debate or voting over 1915 events between Turks and Ottoman Armenians, one should have complete knowledge of WW1, particularly Turkish - Armenian interactions, otherwise it would be only pro- Armenian war propaganda. British historian Prof. Andrew Mango states that "Real victims of WW1 are the Turks"
In reality this issue was resolved by:
In 1919 the British High Commission in Istanbul that was under British occupation at the time, utilizing Armenian informants arrested 144 high Ottoman officials and deported to the island of Malta for trial on charges of harming Armenians. While they were interned in Malta, the British appointed an Armenian scholar, Mr. Haig Khazarian, to conduct a thorough examination of the Ottoman, British and US archives to substantiate charges. Though granted complete access to all records, Khazarian`s corps of investigators discovered an utter lack of evidence demonstrating that Ottoman officials either sanctioned or encouraged killing of Armenians. The British Procurator General exonerated and released all 144 detainees after two year and and four months of detention without trial. No compensation was ever paid to detainees.
It is also a fact that, in order to claim genocide, it requires the verdict of a Tribunal Court, Parliaments are not acceptable place for it.
We have observed all the so called Armenian genocide debates in Washington Congress and Senate as well as Annapolis, Maryland. Unfortunately those representatives that supported resolution are not aware of correct number of population of the Ottoman Armenians. According to various international statistics shows 1.3 - 1.5 million., yet representatives claim 2 million are killed by Turks, disregarding several thousands joined the invading countries like Russia, France, England and US. We regret to see that accusing our ancestors by such false assessment repeatedly over the years is total injustice and unacceptable.
We would like to inform you that April 24 on which US President has the obligation to commemorate only Armenian suffering, disregarding suffering of Turks. That day actually was closing Armenian committees that revolting in several parts of Anatolia, collaborating with the invading nations. In reality for one Armenian death, 4 Turks died during WW1 during which civil war was ongoing, but this fact never been mentioned to this date.
Sincerely Yours,
Fevziye Manizade M.D. & Ali Manizade M.D.
